EMPHASIS: Explosive Device

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Explosives Disposal Unit responded to the 5100 block of Sharon Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri, today at the request of the Cole County Sheriff’s Office. A local resident discovered an Improvised Explosive Device near his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. The Explosives Disposal Unit removed the functional device from the residence, and it was later destroyed for safety precautions.

During the incident, deputies located additional components of another device that was wrapped in duct tape and was already detonated. The devices were constructed from sparklers that are classified as 1.4 G fireworks. The improvised devices were found in a residential neighborhood on the Westside of Jefferson City. Sheriff Greg White asks if anyone has any information regarding this incident, contact the office of sheriff at (573) 634-9160. For safety reasons, citizens who find suspicious items should not handle them.
