Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, in Butler County, that began at 10 p.m. on May 17, 2008, and ended at 3 a.m. on May 18, 2007. During the operation troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at locations known to produce several DWI arrests and accidents.

Troopers made 14 arrests during the shift: 10 for driving while intoxicated, one misdemeanor drug arrest, one other misdemeanor arrest, and two felony warrant arrests. Traffic citations issued by officers included 18 for seat belt violations, four for no child restraint, 10 for no driver’s license, three for no insurance, and 17 non-moving violations. Troopers also issued 127 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation. A total of 398 vehicles were stopped as well as one commercial vehicle.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways and the troopers in the Troop E will continue to pursue this goal.”
