EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On Interstate 55 Results In Drug Arrest

On October 18, 2009, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 2006 Chevrolet Impala traveling south on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County for a traffic violation.
Edward D. Ammons, 29, of Jackson, Mississippi, was the driver of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper noticed the odor of burnt marijuana. After consent to search was obtained, 1,445 capsules of heroin were found in the coat sleeve of a passenger in the vehicle. The passenger was identified as William P. Frazier, 27, of Jackson, Mississippi. Ammons and Frazier, were arrested for possession of marijuana 35 grams or less and trafficking drugs second degree, and then taken to the Pemiscot County Jail.
The charges for which Ammons and Frazier were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
