EMPHASIS: June 1 Promotions/Transfers

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following promotion, transfers effective June 1, 2010:

Captain Dale A. Schmidt is being promoted to the rank of major and designated commander of the Support Services Bureau, General Headquarters, Jefferson City.

Schmidt was appointed to the Patrol on July 9, 1979, as a member of the 50th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol’s Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 2, Jackson County. In 1989, he was promoted to corporal and assigned assistant zone commander of Zone 8, Cass County. Schmidt was promoted to sergeant in 1993, and designated zone commander of Zone 6, Jackson County. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1995, and transferred to Troop C, St. Louis. In 2000, Schmidt was promoted to captain and designated commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City.

Schmidt was born in Rolla, MO. He graduated from Steelville R-III Highway School in 1973. In 1976, he earned an associate’s of arts degree in criminal justice from Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri) in Warrensburg, MO. In 1997, Schmidt graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1998. Schmidt earned a bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice in 2006, from the University of Central Missouri. Prior to joining the Patrol, he worked as a deputy sheriff for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department. Major Schmidt and his wife, Debbie A. (Gentry), of Monett, MO, have one son, Grant.

Major J. Brett Johnson, commander of the Support Services Bureau, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, will transfer to the Field Operations Bureau as commander.

Johnson was appointed to the Patrol on August 1, 1986, as a member of the 58th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 6, Kahoka, MO. In 1992, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone commander of Zone 6, Scotland and Clark counties. In 1993, he was promoted to sergeant and named zone commander of Troop B, Zone 8, Hannibal, MO. Johnson was promoted to lieutenant in 1999, and transferred to Troop F, Jefferson City. In 2001, he was assigned to the Field Operations Bureau. Johnson was reassigned to the assistant superintendent’s office in 2002. On August 1, 2003, he was promoted to captain and designated as the executive officer to the office of superintendent where he also served as a liaison for the Patrol to the Missouri General Assembly. In 2007, Johnson was promoted to major and designated commander of the Support Services Bureau.

Johnson was born in Unionville, MO. He graduated from Putnam County High School in Unionville in May 1976. Prior to joining the Patrol, he was a deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. In 2000, he attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, VA. Major Johnson and his wife, Cindy, have two sons, Trooper Steven Johnson, Troop F, and Shay Johnson, who is a freshman in college and lives in Columbia, MO.

Captain Gregory D. Kindle will transfer from Field Operations Bureau, General Headquarters, to Troop F Headquarters, Jefferson City, and be designated commanding officer of the troop.

Kindle was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 1980, as a member of the 53rd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 2, Putnam and Sullivan counties. In 1987, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone commander of Zone 2, Macon and Shelby counties. In 1990, he was promoted to sergeant and named zone commander of Troop B, Zone 2. Kindle was promoted to lieutenant in 1994, and transferred to Troop H, St. Joseph. In 1999, he was assigned to the Field Operations Bureau, General Headquarters, Jefferson City. Kindle was promoted to captain in 2001, and remained in the Field Operations Bureau.

Kindle was born in Macon, MO. He graduated from Bevier Public School in Bevier, MO, in May 1976. In 2003, he attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, VA. Capt. Kindle is married to Lisa (Newkirk). He has two sons, Andrew Kindle and Christopher Kindle. He also has three stepchildren: Ross Arnett, Alicia Arnett, and Chelsea Arnett.

Lieutenant Gregory K. Smith will be promoted to the rank of captain and remain assigned to the Field Operations Bureau, General Headquarters, Jefferson City.

Smith was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 1989, as a member of the 61st Recruit Class. After graduating from the Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 11, Benton County. He was promoted to corporal and assigned to Zone 6, Jackson County in 1994. In 1997, Smith was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Zone 13, Pettis County. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2001, and assigned to the Field Operations Bureau.

Smith was born in Columbia, MO. He graduated from Fayette High School in Fayette, Mo, in 1985. Prior to joining the Patrol, he was a student at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, now known as the University of Central Missouri. Captain Smith has two daughters, Rachael and Grace.

Sergeant Keverne L. McCollum will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned to the Criminal Justice Information Services Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, where she will be an assistant director.

McCollum was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1984, as a member of the 56th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Academy, she was assigned to Troop H, Zone 4, Trenton. She was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 4, in 1992. McCollum was promoted to sergeant in 1994, and designated zone supervisor of Troop H, Zone 9, Livingston County. In 1998, she transferred to the Division of Drug and Crime Control, General Headquarters, Jefferson City.

McCollum was born in Jefferson City, MO. She graduated from Helias High School in 1977. In 1981, she earned a bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice administration. Lieutenant McCollum is married to Mr. Steve McCollum, and they have three children: Ashley, Justin, and Casey.
