EMPHASIS: Sobriety Checkpoint To Be Held

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces that a sobriety checkpoint will be held in Madison and Wayne counties some time during the month of July. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, in cooperation with other area law enforcement agencies, will conduct the checkpoint.

Sobriety checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s efforts to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri’s highways, and are conducted at various locations which have been found to experience a higher than normal number of alcohol-related violations and traffic crashes.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious crashes and fatalities in southeast Missouri, and this is a method which has been successful in combating the impaired driver problem.”
