EMPHASIS: Interstate 44 Memorial Highway Dedication Honoring Fallen Trooper
On Wednesday October 25, 2006, ceremonies will be conducted to dedicate a portion of I-44 as a memorial highway honoring Corporal Jay Sampietro who lost his life in the furtherance of his duties serving the citizens of this state.
Dedication ceremonies will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop D Headquarters, located at 3131 E. Kearney, Springfield, Missouri. This service will honor Corporal Jay Sampietro who was struck by a vehicle and killed while working on I-44.
Senate Bill #667 establishes the Corporal John A.“Jay” Sampietro Jr. Memorial Highway on Interstate 44, near the 92 mile marker. The bill was signed by Governor Blunt and became effective on August 28, 2006.
