EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On I -55 Results In Drug Arrest

On July 14, 2007, at approximately 11:04 p.m. a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 1998 Oldsmobile traveling north in Interstate 55 at exit 49 in New Madrid County for improper signal.

The driver, Sabrina L. Johnson, 26, of Sikeston, MO, was stopped for improper signal. As the trooper spoke to the driver he asked for and received consent to search. The search revealed marijuana found in a gift bag in the left rear floor of the car. Johnson and Chester M. Brown, 21, also of Sikeston, MO, were arrested for possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and taken to the New Madrid County Jail.

The charges for which Sabrina L. Johnson and Chester M. Brown were arrested for are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
