EMPHASIS: Troop E DWI Enforcement Projects for August

Captain George Ridens, Commanding Officer of Troop E, announced plans to conduct DWI spotchecks and saturations in the Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties during the month of August 2005. The areas chosen for the projects were based on previous alcohol related traffic crashes and impairment based arrests.

Captain Ridens added, “The Patrol is committed to our mission of removing impaired drivers from the roadway before traffic crashes occur. In 2004, nearly 22% of all fatal crashes could be contributed to impaired drivers. That translates into 252 dead and nearly 5,500 injured when someone chooses to drink and drive. Please don’t contribute to the problem, drink responsibly and use designated drivers.”
