EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Cape Girardeau County

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, in Cape Girardeau County, that began at 10 p.m., August 29, 2008, and ended at 3 a.m., August 30, 2008. During the operation troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at locations known to experience several alcohol-related arrests and traffic crashes.

Troopers made 15 arrests during the shift: five for driving while intoxicated, one of those being a felony, eight for misdemeanor offenses, and one other felony arrest. Traffic citations issued by officers included four for seat belt violations, one for no child restraint, seven for no driver’s license, two for no insurance, and four non-moving violations. Troopers also issued 173 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation. A total of 442 vehicles were stopped.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways and the troopers in Troop E will continue to pursue this goal.”
