EMPHASIS: Murder Investigation In Cole County


Just after 8 p.m., on July 30, 2007, Cindy R. Ahart, 46, of Jefferson City, MO, was fatally shot at her residence. Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as James R. Ahart, 44, of Jefferson City, MO. James Ahart was located later at his residence on Shepherd Hills Road in Cole County. Cole County sheriff’s deputies and the Jefferson City Police Department SWAT arrived at the scene and set up a perimeter. At 5 a.m., July 31, the Troop F SWAT team relieved the team from the Jefferson City Police Department. After numerous attempts to contact the subject the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control robot was brought to the scene. The robot entered the apartment in an attempt to make contact. The robot located James Ahart in a back bedroom. At approximately 8:20 a.m., July 31, Troop F SWAT members entered the apartment and determined the subject was deceased.

Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and deputies from the Cole County Sheriff’s Department are handling the investigation, which continues.
