EMPHASIS: 2008 July 4th Weekend Traffic Crash And C.A.R.E. Totals



Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the July 4th holiday weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of 13 counties in southeast Missouri. The enforcement operations included Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort).

During the 2008 July 4th holiday weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m. on Thursday July 3, 2008, and ended at 11:59 p.m., on Sunday, July 6, 2008. Troop E officers investigated 25 traffic crashes, which resulted in 16 injuries, but no fatalities. Troop E officers made 29 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 195 speeding citations, 106 seat belt summonses, and seven child restraint citations, and assisted 129 motorists.

Captain Ridens, stated, “I hope that everyone in southeast Missouri enjoyed the 4th of July weekend, and we appreciate the good job the motoring public continues to do in helping us save lives. Remember to buckle up, pay attention, obey the speed limits, and be courteous as you travel Missouri highways. Together, we can continue to save lives.”
