EMPHASIS: 15-Mile Trooper Program



Captain G.E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces a program designed to provide maximum manpower during the travel days of the holiday weekend. The program has the operational name of 15-mile trooper. The design of the program will provide a trooper at least every 15 miles on designated highways. The designated highways in Troop E are Interstates 55 and U.S. Highway 60. The dates for the program are August 29, 2008 and September 1, 2008. Troopers will be located in both a stationary and moving observational positions. They will monitor traffic and watch for drivers that are following too close, making improper lane changes, and who are intoxicated. Troopers also will be enforcing a zero tolerance policy for motorists who are not wearing a seat belt. The operation is 12 hours in length each day.
