EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Butler County

Captain George Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, in Butler County, that began at 10:00 p.m., March 13, 2009, and ended at 3:00 a.m., March 14, 2009. During the operation troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a location known to experience several alcohol-related arrests and traffic crashes.

Troopers made 11 arrests during the shift: six for driving while intoxicated, three minor in possession of alcohol, one misdemeanor drug arrest, and one misdemeanor warrant arrest. Traffic citations issued by officers included nine for seat belt violations, two for no child restraint, ten for no driver’s license, and four for no insurance. Troopers also issued 95 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation. A total of 315 vehicles were stopped.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways and the troopers in Troop E will continue to pursue that goal.”
